This is a Colonial Red standing seam steel roof by Drexel, installed on a Cape Code style home in South Berwick, Maine. Doesn't the commpleted home look beautiful? This closeup of a portion of the roof shows some of the features of the roof. Each panel of the roof is continuous from the ridgeline to the edge of the eaves. a raised portion on one side interlocks with an inverted v shaped raised portion on the other side of the neighboring panel - there is no penetration for water to leak through. The ridge line is coverd by its own custom made steel topping. A thin strip of steel edging in the same color connects to the edge of the eaves and the steel roof panels.

Unfortunately, this homeowner had fallen prey to one of the Low Bid Blunders we advise you to avoid.

This was the state of the roof when we went to inspect it. The roof was less than 5 years old and should have lasted for at least 25 years, but the low bid contractor who installed it used low grade shingles and installed them poorly.

If there is a silver lining to this story, it is that the old roof never even needed to be removed. The new roof was installed over it. Battens were placed for the new roof directly atop the old shingles. This meant the homeowner did not have to pay extra for disposal and the installation went very quickly without the need to remove and safely dispose of the old roof. The entire project took only 2 days!
